Laser Cutting Basics

An offering by Metropolitan Community College

This 4-hour course is an introduction to laser cutters. Participants are able to use a variety of laser cutters, including the new Glowforge as well as some larger lasers that can cut up to 1/2" thick wood. After covering machine safety, participants use Corel Draw to create an outline or vector image that converts a photograph or jpeg file into an engrave pattern to carve the image into wood or plexiglass. Topics include how to set power and speed to affect the quality of the product and some of the software available to use for cutting living edges and box design. Participants can choose from a wood or plexiglass model.
