Education Internship: Zoo Afterschool Program

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking an Education Intern to assist with the afterschool programs for children age's five to twelve. The Afterschool Education Intern will assist in planning lessons and promoting development that is centered around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The internship runs from January-may and is roughly 30 hours per week, $11 per hour. The Education Intern will report directly to the Program Manager of Schools and the Afterschool Site Coordinator.

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
▪ Work with various ages of children and adults while showing enthusiasm for science-based education.
▪ Responsible for assisting instructors with planned lessons for the core service areas.
▪ Facilitate interactive programs such as experiments, games, crafts, robotics, and other hands-on activities.
▪ Assist with preparation and clean-up of all activities and meals.

Education:
▪ Working toward a degree in early childhood or elementary education.

Personal Characteristics, Abilities & Skills:
▪ Must exhibit good leadership qualities.
▪ Work independently and in group settings.
▪ Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
▪ Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor settings.
▪ Must be at least 16 years old.
▪ Experience working with youth.
▪ Bilingual skills strongly desired.
▪ Must have a valid state driver's license.
